Brush Burning Set for Today in Novato

Marin County Fire Department's Tamalpais Fire Crew will burn brush piles up on Burnt Ridge on the Hill Ranch in northwestern Novato today.

NOVATO, CA -- If you see smoke and smell burning in the city's northwest area today, there's no need for alarm -- probably.

The Marin County Fire Department's Tamalpais Fire Crew are scheduled to burn brush piles up on Burnt Ridge on the Hill Ranch in northwestern Novato.

Burning operations are scheduled to occur from 9:30 am to 4 pm Friday, Nov. 18 under a slight east wind. The goal, according to the County, is to accomplished burning prior to a storm coming in this weekend. The burn site is on Burnt Ridge Fire Road that runs from the end of Wilson Ave. to the towers located on Big Rock Ridge.

The County says the focus of this burn is to create a shaded fuel break to separate a large brush field above Halleck Creek from the homes in the wildland urban interface in Indian Valley and is a continuation of seven years of work.
