'Career Explorers' Youth Interships Open To Applicants In Marin County

Now in its eighth year, the program offers young people an array of paid internships to set them on a path toward public service careers.

MARIN COUNTY, WA — Recruitment kicked off Monday for Marin County's "Career Explorer" program, designed to give young people ages 15 to 22 a chance to hone their vocational skills through a paid internship.

The popular initiative is funded by the Marin County Probation Department and offers participants a $17.50 hourly wage. Officials encourage young people who are interested in kicking off a career in public service to apply, with applications accepted in English and Spanish through May 31.

The program is designed to give young people are headstart, particularly those who have had encounters with the juvenile justice system or who live in neighborhoods disproportionally impacted by crime and socioeconomic challenges.

One participant who interned last year with the nonprofit Bloom Marin said her experience proved invaluable.

"The Career Explorer Program wasn't just an internship for me," said Manpreet Kaur. "It was a gateway to opportunities. I met so many incredible people and had a great time. I would highly recommend this program to anyone."

The program, now entering its eighth year, aims to equip interns with a comprehensive set of skills, while also helping them identify areas that align with their interests and passions.
