Coast Guard Fields Input On North Bay Housing Project
The Coast Guard is preparing to renovate a 126-acre site at the former Hamilton Army Airfield in Novato.

NOVATO, CA — The Coast Guard was scheduled Wednesday to post a virtual meeting about the proposal to renovate a 126-acre housing site at the former Hamilton Army Airfield in Novato.
The public meeting follows a 2021 determination that the "Novato Family Housing" area would need roughly 90 modernized homes to meet future needs, requiring significant renovations to make the site safer and more habitable. The Novato site houses 56 apartments and 33 single-family homes for service members.
The Coast Guard enlisted a contractor to outline layout changes and help evaluate potential environmental effects, and officials are hoping to hear from community members who have opinions about environmental resources, regulatory concerns, or other comments and ideas related to the project's development.

Organizers said Wednesday's online meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m., would offer a brief overview of the project, then allow members of the public to weigh in. Those unable to participate in the meeting still have through the end of June to submit their comments in writing to the Coast Guard's Civil Engineering Unit via email.
