Novato Solar Housing Project Breaks Ground
The Ascend development at Hamilton Field will create a community of 75 solar-powered all-electric Novato townhomes.

NOVATO, CA – A California developer has broken ground on a Novato project that figures to expand the North Bay city’s housing stock while lightening its carbon footprint.
Once completed, the Ascend development at Hamilton Field will create a community of 75 solar-powered all-electric townhomes on 4.712 acres of land at 802 State Access Road.
The Spanish Colonial-style townhome layouts at will range from three to four bedrooms and offer up to 1,875 square feet.

Residents will have access to a community garden, picnic area, playground, and bocce ball courts. Each townhome comes with an attached two-car garage and many amenities including quartz countertops, GE appliances, keyless entry, Nest thermostats, and other energy-efficient appliances and materials, the developer said in a statement.
City Ventures is considered a leading builder of solar all-electric homes.

The first Ascend homes are expected to hit the market next year.
“We tapped into Novato’s iconic architecture as we curated the look and feel of Ascend,” City Ventures CEO Phil Kerr said in a statement.
“Southern Novato is a charming place that is oriented to many outdoor recreational areas, all conveniently interconnected by a beautifully maintained trail system. Ascend will be the perfect community for those seeking a sustainable lifestyle that strikes a unique balance of town and country — all just 45 minutes north of San Francisco.”
Ascend is part of Novato’s Hamilton Field redevelopment, a vibrant master-planned community with residential neighborhoods, business centers, parks, and protected wetlands.
The redevelopment features 70 acres of parks and 50 acres for community facilities, including a library, gymnasium, recently renovated outdoor swimming pool, self-storage, baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, open playing fields, a 15,000-square-foot skate park, and an outdoor amphitheater.
City Ventures currently has 525 solar-powered homes under construction in eight different Bay Area communities.
