High Waves After Tsunami Advisory Recorded In The Bay Area

The National Weather Service reported the highest tidal deviation yet.

POINT REYES, CA — The highest tidal deviation in the Bay Area was recorded in Point Reyes after a massive earthquake in Russia put the West Coast on a tsunami advisory, according to the National Weather Service.

More than three hours after the arrival time of waves caused by the possible tsunami, the NWS recorded nearly 2 feet of tidal deviation, which is the discrepancy between actual water levels and expected tidal heights, which are determined by astronomical calculations.

"This is more than 3 hours after the initial tsunami wave arrived. Wait for the all clear, this is far from over.," the NWS stated.
