Labor Agreements Reached With Sheriff’s Union In This Bay Area County

The county is in active negotiations with multiple employee groups.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — The Marin County Board of Supervisors reached a tentative agreement with the Sheriff’s union and the Deputy District Attorney Unit’s union presented their labor proposal as well at the Tuesday meeting.

Marin County is actively negotiating with all employee unions.

“From day one, we have approached every step of this process with the respect and seriousness it deserves,” Marin County Executive Derek Johnson told Patch. “Some job classifications have fallen behind in the market, and through these contracts we can maintain equity and position ourselves well in the labor market in the years to come. The bottom line is that we need to make sure that the county can both afford agreed upon salary market adjustments and that they enable the county to attract a qualified workforce.”

The supervisors said they are looking to obtain financial sustainable contracts through this process to ensure Marin County is a desirable employer in the region.

Subject to formal Board approval, the agreements included up to an 11% salary increase over three years — including cost-of-living adjustments — to maintain competitive compensation, compensation alignment with comparative labor markets, continued or expanded support for quality healthcare, and enhancements to employee benefits.

“These agreements reflect a thoughtful balance, supporting our employees while maintaining long-term financial stability for the county,” Johnson told Patch. “We are encouraged by the progress so far and grateful for the collaborative spirit shown by our labor partners who have been highly engaged and willing to work toward common ground.”

The county's 10 employee labor groups represent over 2,000 employees. Negotiations continue with remaining partners, and tentative agreements are expected for adoption at the July 8 and July 15 Board of Supervisor meetings.
