NOVATO, CA — Novato police worked with Marin Humane late Sunday to track down a pair of wandering horses and get them back home in time for breakfast.

Officers and animal care workers fielded reports of two horses roaming in the area of Santa Maria Drive and Los Cedros Drive just before 11:30 p.m. Working together, they were able to get a handle on both mares and keep them safely at Morning Star Farm until they could be taken home.

"When asked by officers if they were the little ponies on the run, they de-neighed everything and said they were just on an evening stroll," the department wrote on social media. "The pair were contained (after some horsing around) and nicknamed 'Maple Stirrup and 'Tater Trot.'"
