Novato Launches New Short-Term Rental Portal
The program follows an ordinance adopted by the City Council in February allowing residents to rent out all or part of their homes.
NOVATO, CA — The city of Novato has launched a new short-term rental registration program.
The program follows an ordinance the City Council adopted in February that allows permanent residents to rent out all or part of their home for less than 30 consecutive nights.
The ordinance sets a maximum occupancy, asks owners to develop a parking plan, and sets what types of properties are eligible to rent out.

“This new service makes it easier for visitors to experience Novato’s unique charm while enforcing regulations that preserve community character,” city officials said in a statement.
The new portal creates a place where residents can apply for short-term rental registration and a business license, as well as track and pay transient occupancy taxes, city officials said.
Host Compliance will assist with regulation of the program and has set up a 24-hour hotline for neighbors to report any issues.
The monitoring service can be reached by calling (415) 301-3574 or online here.
