Novato Police Get Top Honors At NHRA Event

The Novato Police Department was honored for its involvement in a program that aims to steer teens away from illegal street racing.

NOVATO, CA — A Marin law enforcement agency took top honors over the weekend at an NHRA event.

The Novato Police Department received the “Top Agency” award Sunday at Sonoma Raceway for its involvement in the facility’s Top the Cops Program.

The Top the Cops program provides teens a chance to race against local police officers, who compete in full uniform in their official vehicles.

The program’s main goal is providing teens an alternative to illegal street racing. The program also provides a unique environment for the officers to talk with teens about safe driving and the rules of the road.

“Yesterday, at the NHRA Championships, we received an award for ‘Top Agency’ in the Sonoma Raceway's Top the Cops Program.

Congrats to our friends at CHP - Napa & CHP - Santa Rosa for winning ‘Best Reaction Time’ & ‘Top Cop Award,’ the NPD wrote on its Facebook page.
