Victim Hospitalized Following Novato Shooting Near Shopping Center: Report

Novato police investigated a shooting, which triggered a shelter-in-place for hours.

NOVATO, CA — The Novato Police Department investigated a shooting Wednesday night in the area of Nave Drive and State Access Road near the Safeway shopping center that put one person in the hospital, according to a KTVU report.

Police said they received a report of shots fired at around 7:30 p.m. last night. When they arrived they found one adult with gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital and their condition is non-life threatening, the report stated.

Novato police issued a shelter-in-place as they investigated a disturbance involving “a group of juveniles,” according to a Novato police press release.

Novato police and fire departments, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation. Police K-9, a drone and a CHP helicopter assisted in the search, the press release said.

Police lifted the shelter-in-place at around 11 p.m. but have not announced any arrest and further details of the incident were not immediately available.
