NOVATO, CA — An inactive grenade brought to campus for a class presentation prompted a brief lockdown Tuesday in Novato, according to police.

Police said they received a report of a possible explosive device around 11 a.m. as staffers moved the school into a "shelter in place" status as a precautionary measure. Officers responded to the scene and soon confirmed there was no threat to safety.

"It was determined the device was inactive and brought on campus to be used in a guest presentation for a history class," the department wrote on Facebook. "The speaker uses the device in their explanation and demonstration of war experience."
