Decisive Win Sends San Marin To NCS Football Semis

Top-seeded San Marin will play host to No. 4 St. Bernard of Eureka (Humboldt County) in an NCS Div. V playoff semifinal Friday at 7 p.m.

NOVATO, CA — San Marin is one win away from a state section title game.

The top-seeded Mustangs advanced to the North Coast Section Division V semifinals after a decisive 42-6 first-round win against No. 8 Hercules on Friday.

San Marin (10-1) will play host to No. 4 St. Bernard of Eureka (Humboldt County) Friday at 7 p.m.

Justin Guin rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries to lead San Marin (10-1) to its third straight win.

Guin has emerged as one of the NCS’ most dominant backfield threats. He’s rushed for 1,789 yards and 28 touchdowns and has tallied at least 100 yards in all but one game (he was held to 98 in a 53-7 Marin County Athletic League win against Terra Linda on Oct. 8).

Joey Cook was 4-for-7 passing for 70 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

Andy Garcia had two receptions (both for touchdowns) for 44 yards.

St. Bernard (7-4) is coming off a 14-7 first-round playoff win against No. 5 De Anza of El Sobrante (Contra Costa County).

The Crusaders are led by junior quarterback Drew Sizemore, a dual threat who threw 1,607 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for a team-leading 684 yards and four touchdowns.

Sizemore threw for one touchdown and rushed for another in the De Anza game.
