San Marin Readies For Pivotal MCAL Showdown

The Mustangs​​ will play host to Archie Williams​ (formerly known as Drake) Friday at 7 p.m.

NOVATO, CA — San Marin High is readying for a pivotal early season Marin County Athletic showdown between two unbeaten teams.

The Mustangs will play host to Archie Williams (formerly known as Drake) Friday at 7 p.m.

San Marin, the North Coast Section’s top-ranked Division V team, is coming off a 49-0 victory over San Rafael in a league opener for both teams Sept. 24.

The Mustangs (4-0, 1-0) have outscored their opponents 198-34 on the season.

The Mustangs are led by quarterback Joey Cook. The junior standout has completed 31 of 49 pass attempts for 605 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception through the team’s first three games (San Marin hasn’t yet reported stats for its most recent game).

Running back Justin Guin has been a key factor for San Marin too. The junior leads the team with 461 rushing yards and nine touchdowns through the team’s first three games.

Archie Williams (4-0), ranked No. 10 in Division V, has yet to play a league game.

The Pirates’ defense has yet to yield a point through four games. They’ve outscored their opponents 144-2, allowing their only points on a safety.

Archie Williams is coming off a 41-0 nonleague victory over Richmond on Sept. 24.

San Marin is ranked No. 19 overall in the North Coast Section and No. 1 in Division V.
