Search For Bay Area Hiker Enters 6th Day

A Redwood City woman went missing Thursday.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Over 150 search and rescue personnel and four drone teams have joined the search for a 79-year-old Redwood City woman who went missing Thursday, police said.

Margaret “Elaine” McKinley, who has dementia, went missing Thursday while hiking with her family in the Windy Hill Open Preserve in Portola Valley, police said.

McKinley was last seen hiking on the Lost Trail and was wearing a red jacket and black pants. Since Thursday, there have been no reported sightings of her, police said.

As of Sunday, search and rescue personnel have scoured over 3,000 total miles by car or foot.

Drone teams from Alameda, Santa Clara and Marin County along with SMC’s drone team joined the search. Drivers and cyclists have been asked to be aware of personnel searching along Highway 35.

“Our shared focus continues to be on finding Elaine. We remain hopeful and are each personally vested in these efforts,” said Sheriff Christina Corpus. “I want to personally thank our dedicated volunteers and personnel. They have not wavered in their commitment, and we are indebted to them.”

The SMC sheriff’s office has area residents in the area to check their cameras night and day dating back to Thursday at 10 a.m.
