Police Respond To Shots Fired In A Marin County Home
This is the second report of shots fired in Novato since a Wednesday night incident that put one person in the hospital, police said.
NOVATO, CA — The Novato Police Department responded to several calls of shots fired early Friday morning at a residence on Estado Way, where they evacuated the area and took one resident into custody, police said.
Police received multiple reports of gunshots at a home near the 400 block of Estado Way near San Marin Drive. When officers arrived, they found one individual outside who said their roommate was inside holding a gun and had fired several shots, said Nick Freya, a Novato Lieutenant.
Novato and San Rafael SWAT evacuated the area and surrounded the residence. As officers attempted to communicate with the resident, the occupant exited the home and was taken into custody, police said.

“There is no danger to the community. The vast majority of police personnel are no longer on scene. We just have a small contingent of our detectives investigations unit at the scene itself,” Freya said.
At 7:25 a.m., Novato police sent out an alert stating the shelter-in-place had ended, police said.

This incident is still under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time, Freya said.
“We're very fortunate we don't have a significant amount of violent crime. But again, then there's periods. Look at this week alone, where we've had two cases of incidents involving firearms within 48 hours give or take. I don't have the stats in front of me, but it does occur. Overall, I feel this is a very safe community for the most part,” Freya said.
Freya added that at this time they don’t believe there is any connection between this incident and a shooting Wednesday night near the Hamilton shopping center that left one person hospitalized. That incident is also currently under investigation and no arrests have been made.
Freya said he expects the NPD to release updates on both incidents soon.
