Teen Fatally Stabbed Near Oceanside Pier Identified as Jorge Basave, 17

Jorge Basave, 17, died of a single stab wound to the chest after being stabbed in a parking lot on the 200 block of Mission Avenue.

The San Diego coroner’s office released the name of a teenager who was killed in a stabbing near the Oceanside Pier Thursday evening.

Jorge Basave, 17, died of a single stab wound to the chest after being stabbed in a parking lot on the 200 block of Mission Avenue.

The injury occurred at 8:43 p.m. and Oceanside Police Officers found him shortly after, according to this report.  He later died at a local hospital.

Witnesses told investigators the slaying occurred during a brawl that followed a verbal argument in which two groups of youths traded rival gang challenges.

An argument was caught on camera minutes before the stabbing took place. Detectives have obtained the footage.

Mourners erected a memorial near the spot where he died Thursday. 

There was no evidence the victim had any gang affiliations, Lt. Aaron Doyle told City News Service Friday.

The Oceanside Police Department has set up an anonymous tip line for witnesses. Anyone with information about the slaying should call 760-435-4730.
