Dern says she hasn’t fully allowed herself to grieve yet, especially after other recent losses, but feels deeply grateful for Ladd’s artistic legacy and their family memories. 
• Two reindeer enjoy a pre-flight retreat in the Ventura River (ojaivalleynews.com) — Two wayward reindeer gave Ojai Valley residents an unusual pre-Christmas surprise, wandering through the Ventura River bottom at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy’s preserve on December 20. Locals, including Ojai resident Christina Maggio and friends from Oso Ranch on Meyer Road, helped rally a successful roundup and return of the animals after their sunny river retreat.
• Powerful storm hits the Tri-Counties, but no serious flooding problems reported (kclu.org) — Ojai picked up 4.7 inches of rain in the latest atmospheric-river storm, one of the higher totals in Ventura County but without serious flooding reported. Across the Tri-Counties, communities saw street flooding, downed trees, and scattered outages, and officials warn that another, lighter system on already saturated hillsides could still cause issues on Christmas Day.
