11 Rescued From Flooding Boat Off Dana Point Harbor

The incident occurred seven miles south of the harbor.

DANA POINT, CA — Eleven people were rescued from a flooding catamaran Saturday evening seven miles south of Dana Point Harbor, authorities said.

The U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call around 6:20 p.m. from the operator of a 50-foot charter catamaran named Manute’a, according to authorities.

The Dana Point Harbor Patrol and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department responded along with Coast Guard Station Los Angeles, which launched a response boat and diverted a cutter, authorities said.

Emergency personnel controlled the flooding and brought the passengers safely to another charter vessel, and a towboat took the Manute’a back to the harbor.
