📰 Here are the top stories today in Orange County:
- A 25-year-old Seal Beach man had a bad day ending in an arrest. Reportedly, police were called to conduct a welfare check, found a young child with “multiple visible injuries on the child's face and body,” and tried to stop him. He tried to escape, got into a crash in Los Alamitos, and now faces “several charges, including felony child abuse, resisting arrest, felony evading, and felony hit-and-run resulting in injuries.” (Patch)
- Stay out of the water if you go to Dana Point’s Strands and Salt Creek beaches. And you might want to give local wildlife plenty of space. Officials dealt Tuesday morning with an aggressive sea lion who reportedly attacked a couple of beachgoers. Experts believe this behavior could be associated with seizures caused by domoic acid poisoning from a known toxic algae bloom. (Los Angeles Daily News)
- Buena Park’s vacant Sears could become a 1,300-unit residential development. The name of the proposed development is the Village at Buena Park. If the city agrees, construction will continue until 2027 in a two-phase approach to build apartments and townhomes. (MSN)
- The area around Anaheim’s Honda Center may get more pedestrian bridges. The federal government gave the city $5 million to erect pedestrian bridges and build trails around the facility. “In years to come, Anaheim’s riverfront will be the place to connect with nature and enjoy new entertainment and fun around Honda Center,” the mayor said. (Anaheim CA News)
- Irvine is getting a “renewable natural gas (‘RNG’) landfill gas project.” Montauk Renewables, Inc. made the announcement on Tuesday. This is the company’s second landfill gas-to-energy facility in the OC. The Frank R. Bowerman Landfill gas is expected to produce “approximately 3,600 MMBtu per day” after the project goes live in 2026. (Benzinga)
