April Showers, Cool Temperatures Forecast Across SoCal

A deep marine layer and strong onshore flow brings cooler weather to SoCal this weekend, introducing a chain of rain and thunder.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — The Southland is in for some late April showers over the weekend along with cool temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

The bulk of the rain is expected Saturday afternoon when the storm moves in from central California to Los Angeles County. Los Angeles is forecast to have an 80 percent chance of rain Saturday. The storm is expected to slowly peter out as it heads south, leaving San Diego with a 20 percent chance of rain, Newport Beach with a 40 percent chance of rain, and Temecula with a 30 percent chance, according to the weather service.

Rain total forecasts for Saturday have increased, with around a third of an inch across Los Angeles and Venture counties and up to half an inch across Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, according to the weather service. Southern California remains woefully short on precipitation for the month, with less than half the average rainfall for the month falling so far.

The system moves east of the area by Saturday evening, but there will be enough moisture going into Sunday that possible showers may pop up overnight and into Sunday morning, according to the weather service.

The rest of Sunday is expected to be dry with slightly warmer temperatures across SoCal.
