- A convicted burglar was charged with attempted murder after shooting an Orange County teen on Thursday. Angel Perez, 21, shot the teenage boy in Buena Park on Monday, and was charged "with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, both felonies." (Patch)
- Repeat O.C. speeder Afiff Kevin Doaifi, 28, was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for killing a woman he hit driving nearly 100 m.p.h. Doaifi, of Mission Viejo, killed a 33-year-old woman just before midnight on Saturday, March 25, 2017, after he gunned his Camaro eastbound on Alicia Parkway in Mission Viejo. (New Santa Ana)
- SensoRy AI, a new climate solution by a teen inventor, found partners in Irvine Ranch Conservancy and the Orange County Fire Authority. Newport teen Ryan Honary developed a low-cost early wildfire detection system using a network of wireless sensors and AI to determine how wildfires spread. Honary "worked with IRC Chief Conservation Officer Nathan Gregory, Ph.D. in 2021 to develop field applications for his concept." (Yahoo Finance)
- Orange County firefighters demonstrated how a Christmas tree can be consumed by fire in only 3 to 5 seconds, generating over 2,000 degrees of heat, and can quickly engulf a room with flames and plumes of heavy smoke. The synthetic materials often found in home furniture "burns quickly" and the chemicals release toxic fumes, fire officials added. Avoid the most common causes of Christmas tree fires, including faulty electrical wiring, lights, and heat sources like candles or space heaters that are too close to the tree. (KTLA Los Angeles)
