ORANGE COUNTY, CA — The Orange County community is rallying to support a local family after an 8-year-old child was killed by a fireworks explosion on the 4th of July in Buena Park.
Jasmine Nguyen was described as an "energetic" child with a "heart as big as her smile" by uncle Thang Duong, who helped to organize a GoFundMe for Jasmine's family —which includes her mother, Bi Doan, her grandmother and her 7-year-old sister.
"The sudden and tragic passing of her 8-year-old daughter Jasmine on the 4th of July from a fireworks accident in Buena Park has left a void that words cannot fill," Duong told Patch. "As she navigates the grief of losing her child, we want her to know she is not alone."

Duong said that the single mother also supports her elderly mother by working full-time. All GoFundMe proceeds will be forwarded directly to the family, he said.
"[Jasmine] was one that noticed when someone was sad and made sure no one ever felt left out," Duong said. "In her eight years, Jasmine showed us what it truly means to live in the moment, to love without reservation, and to find magic in the small things."
