SigAlert: 3 Burglary Suspects Killed In 5 Freeway Pursuit Crash

ANAHEIM, CA — Three burglary suspects were killed in a pursuit crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway Wednesday morning, authorities said, shutting down the freeway to through traffic and triggering a SigAlert.

The crash was reported at 4:43 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Brookhurst Avenue and Euclid Street, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to authorities, three burglary suspects were killed in the crash after an apparent police pursuit.

The pursuit started just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, when the Anaheim Police Department responded to the theft of a black sedan in the 1400 block of Marlboro Ave.

Officers pursued the suspects onto the northbound freeway, and after a short pursuit, the suspects lost control of the sedan and crashed near the Brookhurst Avenue exit, police said.

Three of the suspects were pronounced dead and two others were listed in "critical condition."

The crash shut down all lanes on the northbound side of the freeway throughout Wednesday morning, less than three miles from Disneyland Park in Anaheim.

By 6 a.m., two lanes on the freeway had been reopened, according to the CHP.

The crash prompted authorities to issue a long-standing SigAlert "until further notice."

Motorists were urged to avoid the area.
