Crews Knock Down Brush Fire At Irvine Regional Park In Orange

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — It took some 100 firefighters to stop the forward progress of a brush fire that scorched about 21 acres Sunday inside Irvine Regional Park, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

The blaze, which ignited near 1 Irvine Park Road, was reported around 12:30 p.m., the OCFA reported.

The fire started out small, about 1.5 acres, but ballooned up to an estimated 21 acres before forward progress was stopped, the OCFA reported.

Firefighter needed about 84 minutes to corral the flames.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened, the OCFA said. The park remained closed, and the agency added that "All animals at the park are all safe."

Firefighters remained at the scene to do mop-up work and knock down any hot spots that might flare up, the OCFA reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
