Handgun Found In 6th Grader's Backpack; 3 Students Detained In Fountain Valley

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA — Three sixth-grade students were detained this week after a handgun was found to have a semiautomatic handgun and ammunition in their backpack at an Orange County middle school, The Orange County Register reported.

The handgun and ammunition was found Monday after authorities received a report regarding the weapon at Vista View Middle School in Fountain Valley, according to the report.

Two students were arrested and booked into Orange County juvenile hall, while a third was taken to a local hospital for suspected mental health issues, according to the report.
