ANAHEIM, CA — Disneyland Resort announced that Toontown would reopen later than expected, a park spokesperson shared with Patch.

Though the Imagineers and workers planned for a grand re-opening on Mickey and Minnie Mouse's birthday on March 8, weather and other delays have pushed back the re-opening to March 19.

The harsh rainstorms Orange County experienced over the winter interfered with a "critical construction period," they said.

Toontown shut down in November 2022. Though Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway —at the entry to Toontown—opened for guests on January 27, the remainder of the cartoonish land will remain shuttered with promises of places for families to unwind, new eateries and updated chances to interact with characters.

Mickey's Toontown will feature new play experiences and open, grassy play spaces for everyone to unplug. Landscaping will be designed for family play and parental relaxation. But you have to wait a bit longer.

"Due to heavy winter storms that impacted our construction momentum, we are adjusting the reopening date of Mickey’s Toontown to March 19," the spokesperson explained.

So, while we wait, here's another look at what Toontown will be like once those gates open.

Toontown has undergone an ambitious reimagining and will reopen with all-new experiences for families and young children to have more experiences at the park, according to Kelsey Lynch, Public Relations Director of Disneyland Resort.

Most anticipated include the CenTOONial Park, the first space for guests to visit upon entering the park with a dreaming tree, water tables and fountains.

The park is sure to become the center icon for Mickey's Toontown, according to Imagineers.

The great minds of Disney are building a "dreaming tree," inspired by the tree a young Walt Disney would daydream under in his hometown.

Sculpted tree roots will provide an opportunity for children to play, crawl and explore, and undulating topography will offer rolling hills and a place to sit and dream, they said.

Also, at the new land, you’ll once again be able to step right into their homes and enjoy a self-guided tour as you discover special surprises in every room. You may even be able to visit with Mickey and Minnie while you’re there, should they be home.

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin will also return, where you can board Lenny the Cab and spin through the streets and alleys of Toontown as you follow the adventures of Roger Rabbit.

Two new places to eat are opening in the land. Café Daisy and the Toontown Farmers Market at Good Boy! Grocers.

Good Boy! Grocers is a friendly roadside stand offering grab-and-go drinks and treats.

Café Daisy showcases acclaimed culinary expert Daisy Duck, who serves up diner classics at her sidewalk table eatery.

"We can’t wait for our Guests to visit and experience the reimagined land," they said.
