ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A popular Mexican fast-food chain is unveiling a special, albeit bizarre, twist on a taco this week in honor of National Pickle Month that will only be available in five Southern California counties.

Beginning Tuesday, Del Taco will begin serving (you guessed it) fried pickle tacos across its Orange County locations — a bold move perhaps only a beloved brand like Del Taco could get away with.

The mashup treat includes a crispy, breaded and fried dill pickle spear wrapped in a warm flour tortilla, topped with shredded lettuce, fresh house-grated cheddar cheese, fresh sliced tomatoes and creamy ranch sauce.

“Del Taco has always embraced the unexpected, and we couldn’t resist putting our own spin on the trending pickle moment,” said Sarah McAloon, interim president of Del Taco. “The Fried Pickle Taco is a playful way to have fun with our menu and serve up the bold, limited-time creations we think our guests will love, all while celebrating one of summer’s most iconic ingredients.”

The never-before-seen taco creation is described as tangy, crunchy, creamy and cool.

This unique taco will only be offered at select locations across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, according to the company.

Across Orange County, the taco shop has dozens of locations.

Del Taco has at least 354 locations across California, according to ScrapeHero. The chain was founded in 1964 by Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson in Yermo, California. Back then, the shop had a menu of 19-cent tacos, tostadas, fries and 24-cent cheeseburgers.

The chain typically recognizes National Avocado Day with deals and other national celebrations of beloved foods.
