Critical Race Theory Banned By Orange County School District: Report

PLACENTIA, CA — Members of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District approved a resolution Tuesday banning critical race theory from being taught in classrooms, the Orange County Register reported.

The resolution passed 3-2, with school board President Carrie Buck and Trustee Karien Freeman voting against the ban, the Register reported. The vote signaled Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified becoming the first district in Orange County to pass such a ban.

Critical race theory is an academic concept taught in colleges that first gained prominence in the 1970s and puts forward the notion that racism in the United States is a systemic part of society.

Critics claim critical race theory is taught to students at the K-12 level, but school districts in Orange County, including Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified, said it is not, the Register reported.
