📰 Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. Bill Workman, former football coach at Edison High School and Orange Coast College, has died at the age of 82. Edison's alumni from the 1970s and 80s will remember him for taking the football team “to CIF-SS Big-Five Conference titles in 1979 and 1980, and a Big-Five co-championship in 1985.” At Orange Coast, he took the team to a Mission Conference title in 1990. Those who knew him described him as “a player’s coach.” (The Orange County Register/paywall)
  2. Two Anaheim teens and one Garden Grove teenager were arrested “on suspicion of killing a good Samaritan who intervened in the beating of a 76-year-old man in Stanton.” We don’t know why they attacked the older man in the first place; however, we do know that the 49-year-old man intervened and was shot to death. Reportedly, the suspects have gang ties. (Patch)
  3. The Orange Police Department arrested a 50-year-old woman near a local hospital. In addition to having two no-bail warrants, she was in the facility “screaming and threatening their staff.” When police closed in, she fled in a Kia and caused a traffic accident at Chapman Avenue and Tustin Street. Even then, she refused to comply, and it took “a trained negotiator, an armored vehicle, and chemical agents” to get her out of the car. (New Santa Ana)
  4. A county judge blocked Fullerton’s law “that blocks anyone from leaving their (RV) on the street without a permit.” The city council intended it as an anti-RV camping rule on public streets. However, the judge questioned the constitutionality, which means that the law has to go through the trial process, which may be in September 2024. (Voice of OC)
  5. If you couldn’t buy tickets to Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash last week, there’s hope! After a “technical meltdown,” they will go on sale again on Tuesday at 9 a.m. And yes, if you were lucky enough to buy tickets before the IT issue, they will be honored. (Patch)
