Woman Stole $121K+ From Orange County Company: Prosecutor

A 49-year-old Huntington Beach woman was behind bars Thursday on charges of embezzling more than $121,000 from a Yorba Linda-based company.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A 49-year-old Huntington Beach woman was behind bars Thursday on charges of embezzling more than $121,000 from a Yorba Linda-based design-build company.

Marni Mathewswilson was charged May 26 with three counts each of grand theft by embezzlement and making false entries in records or returns, all felonies. She also faces sentencing enhancements for property damage exceeding $65,000 and aggravated white collar crime between $100,000 and $500,000, according to court records.

Mathewswilson, who was arrested Tuesday by Huntington Beach police, was being held without bail, according to jail records. She listed her occupation as "accounting."

Mathewswilson is accused of stealing $121,420.26 from Conscious Environments from February 2019 through January 2021, according to court records.

Mathewswilson did not enter a plea Thursday at her arraignment in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana. The hearing was rescheduled for July 21 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
