Pacifica School District – 2026-2027 6th Grade Lottery

Students must reside within Pacifica School District (PSD) boundaries on the day of the lottery to participate. Students must continue to reside within PSD boundaries when the school year begins.

6th Grade Placement

Currently enrolled students will attend 6th grade at either Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School or Cabrillo School (TK–8). In most cases, placement is determined by your child’s current school.

Students completing 5th grade at a PSD TK–5 or K–5 school are guaranteed a space at Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School. Students currently enrolled at Cabrillo School are guaranteed a space in that program through 8th grade. If no change in placement is desired, parents do not need to take any action.

In November 2025, letters and transfer request forms were mailed to all current 5th graders in the district, as well as district residents on the waitlist but attending out-of-district schools, offering the opportunity to request a transfer for the 2026–2027 school year, if desired. Deadlines for Sixth Grade Transfer Requests:
Cabrillo School students who wish to transfer to Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School must submit the form to the District Office (411 Oceana Boulevard) no later than 4:30 p.m. on January 21, 2026. No exceptions.

Ocean Shore, Ortega, Sunset Ridge, or Vallemar School students who wish to transfer to Cabrillo School must submit the form to the District Office (411 Oceana Boulevard) no later than 4:30 p.m. on January 21, 2026. No exceptions.

Current 5th grade waitlists do not roll over to 6th grade for the 2026–2027 school year. The 6th grade waitlist for 2026–2027 will be re-established through the lottery. Please make note of the ID number on the Sixth Grade Request to Transfer form, as this number will be used during the lottery process.

School Tours
Information regarding school tours is available on the PSD website at www.pacificasd.org. Parents are encouraged to attend school tours; however, attendance is not mandatory.

Lottery information
If the number of transfer requests exceeds the number of available spaces at either school site, a lottery will be held. The lottery will take place on January 23, 2026. Results will be posted near the entrance of the District Office and on the PSD website by 6:00pm on the day of the lottery. Once a request to transfer is approved, the vacancy created by that transfer will be filled; therefore, transfer requests cannot be rescinded post-lottery.
