Do You Know What To Do In An Earthquake? SMC PD Offer Class To Help Locals Prepare

In recognition of the anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake, this police department is offering an earthquake preparedness class.

PACIFICA, CA — Is your family prepared? Do you live in a tsunami hazard area? Do you have a plan? These are just some of the questions the Pacifica Police Department said they will answer at an earthquake preparedness class Oct. 28.

To commemorate the Loma Prieta earthquake anniversary, the Pacifica Police Department and Pacifica Community Emergency Response Team are offering a 90-minute in-person class Oct. 28, focusing on preparing for the next major earthquake.

These preparedness strategies apply to other disasters like winter storms and wildfires. Attendees will also receive a basic first aid kit.

In the aftermath of a major earthquake or other disaster, emergency services may be overwhelmed. Therefore, personal preparedness is critical. Experts recommend that individuals be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours before assistance becomes available.
