PACIFICA, CA — The Tom Lantos Tunnels will close Wednesday evening to allow first responders to complete annual emergency training, according to Caltrans.

The mandatory drill is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday and wrap up by 4 a.m. Thursday. During that time, the California Highway Patrol, State Fire Marshals, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, Cal Fire, and the Pacifica fire and police departments will test fire suppression and communication systems and practice multi-agency emergency coordination.

According to Caltrans, the northbound and southbound lanes of State Route 1 will remain closed through the Devil's Slide tunnels until the exercise is complete. CHP officers will be on-site to direct traffic between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay onto detour routes.
