Fire That Damaged Pacifica Apartment Building Apparently Caused By Smoking Materials
The fire occurred Wednesday evening.
PACIFICA, CA — A fire apparently caused by "improperly discarded smoking materials" damaged an apartment building in Pacifica on Wednesday evening, according to the North County Fire Authority.
Firefighters responded shortly after 6 p.m. to a fire reported at 439 Gateway Drive and arrived to find smoke coming from a first-floor unit at a two-story, 12-unit apartment building.
Crews were able to extinguish the blaze with no injuries reported. Three people from two separate units were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross, fire officials said.

The North County Fire Authority, which serves the cities of Pacifica, Daly City and Brisbane in San Mateo County, encouraged people to discard smoking materials in a non-combustible container to avoid sparking a fire.
