Man Arrested, Woman Hospitalized After Suspected DUI Crash In Pacifica

PACIFICA, CA — Officers investigating a crash Saturday morning found an unconscious man and sleeping woman in a parking lot off Cabrillo Highway in Pacifica, according to police.

In a news release Monday, police said an officer arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle crash around 6 a.m. Saturday. The officer found a man unconscious in the driver's seat of a damaged vehicle and a woman sleeping on the ground nearby.

Investigators determined the vehicle hit several objects in the parking lot before coming to a stop near a pedestrian footpath. Police said the driver showed signs of intoxication, and officers arrested him on suspicion of DUI after administering field sobriety tests. Medics rushed the woman to the hospital to receive treatment for "extreme alcohol intoxication."

Police identified the driver as Diogo Zavalacardoso, 21, of Moss Beach. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.
