2 Arrested, 14 Cited During Palm Desert DUI Checkpoint

PALM DESERT, CA — Two people were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and 14 motorists were cited for other violations during a DUI checkpoint in Palm Desert, authorities announced Saturday.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department conducted the checkpoint at Fred Waring Drive and Portola Avenue from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday.

A total of 890 vehicles were screened, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies arrested Dennis Siggins, 26, of Wildomar for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. Meliton Mejia, 34, of Palm Springs was also arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

One other person was cited for driving on a suspended license, and 13 people were cited for being unlicensed drivers, according to the sheriff's department.
