2 Arrested On Suspicion Of Narcotics, Gun Possession In DHS

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA —Two felons from Desert Hot Springs are behind bars Thursday for alleged firearm and narcotics possession.

Mohammad Ali Mir, 49, and Andrew Isaiah Gamboa, 32, were arrested Wednesday afternoon after Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force officers stopped them near Date Palm Drive and Tortuga Road in Cathedral City, according to Sgt. Paul Heredia from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Heredia said that during the stop, Gang Task Officers found that Mir was on active state parole and they searched the vehicle, where they allegedly found a loaded 9mm handgun with no serial numbers, suspected methamphetamine and items indicating the sale of narcotics.

Mir was arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon possessing a firearm, possessing methamphetamine for sales, possessing a loaded firearm with narcotics, and violating his parole, according to Heredia.

Gamboa was arrested on suspicion of being a felon possessing a firearm, committing a felony while on bail and driving while addicted to drugs.

They were both booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio. Mir was being held without bail and Gamboa was being held on $45,000 bail.
