2 Dead; 1 Hospitalized After Head-On Collision In Mecca

It was undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

MECCA (CNS) - Two people died in a head-on collision Thursday in Mecca, and a third person was airlifted to a hospital.

The crash happened just after noon Thursday on state Route 111 south of Avenue 68, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer David Torres said a blue Honda Civic was southbound when the motorist drove into a northbound lane to pass a slower vehicle, then collided head-on into a blue Acura TL, overturning it.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. A female passenger in the Civic was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for unknown injuries.

The cause of the crash was under investigation. It was undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
