British Visitors Found With 50 Lbs Of Marijuana In Palm Desert Traffic Stop

As cops pulled over two people in Palm Desert, they found this in the trunk of a vehicle.

PALM DESERT, CA — Two United Kingdom residents were arrested on suspicion of transporting more than 50 pounds of marijuana for sale in Palm Desert, authorities said Wednesday.

Both 30-year-old James Ashton and 26-year-old Cory Richardson were temporarily held at the John Benoit Detention Center.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop for unspecified reasons around 9:45 p.m. Monday at Frank Sinatra and College drives, according to Lt. Deirdre Vickers of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

They found about 61 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle's trunk, Vickers said. Vacuum-sealer bags were also located in the trunk, along with the marijuana, according to the photo of the collected contraband.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were taken into custody without incident on suspicion of transporting marijuana for sale, a misdemeanor. They were released on $2,500 bond, with a pending court date of Dec. 10 at the Indio Larson Justice Center, according to jail records.
