4.2 Quake Near Twentynine Palms Shakes Coachella Valley

A magnitude 4.2 earthquake, centered about 10 miles south of Twentynine Palms, lightly shook the Coachella Valley Monday morning.

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA -- Did you feel it? A magnitude 4.2 earthquake, centered about 10 miles south of Twentynine Palms, lightly shook the Coachella Valley Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No reports of damage have emerged so far, but the Joshua Tree National Park near Palm Springs has been temporarily closed as a precaution.

Monday's quake is the highest magnitude tremor in the Coachella Valley since July 5, when Ridgecrest was rocked by a magnitude 7.1 temblor. It came the day after a magnitude 6.4 quake tremor struck Ridgecrest on Independence Day.
