5 Animal Nonprofits To Know In The Coachella Valley
There is no shortage of groups to volunteer with or get behind financially.

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Coachella Valley. Fortunately, there is no shortage of groups to volunteer with or get behind financially.
Among the organizations are several that work with animals. Here are five Coachella Valley nonprofits that deal with four-legged critters and are worth getting to know:
1. Animal Samaritans, SPCA: Animal Samaritans believes "in the healing power of animal-human connections and views all living creatures with compassion and respect, with a primary focus on dogs, cats, and the people who love them," according to the Coachella Valley-based nonprofit. The organization's mission statement reads: “Animal Samaritans is dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people.” The organization's work includes the operation of a no-kill shelter for pets; veterinary care; education; and an Animal Companion Therapy program.

2. Loving All Animals: The mission of Loving All Animals is to bring together local, regional, and national welfare organizations to maximize programs intended to stop the killing of four-legged creatures. Loving All Animals was incorporated at the end of 2008 to fill a void in the animal welfare community within the Coachella Valley, according to the organization. The nonprofit sought to be the conduit for the welfare of the valley’s animals. Lindi Biggi, founder of Loving All Animals, believed that if all of the shelters and rescue organizations could work cooperatively, the animals would be the ultimate beneficiary.
3. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens: For over 50 years, The Living Desert in Palm Desert has been a leader in the conservation of the world’s deserts. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, The Living Desert relies on donors to sustain operations. Donations help ensure the care of animals, educate the next generation about the world’s deserts, and inspire guests to care for the world’s wildlife and wild places, according to the organization.

5. Guide Dogs of the Desert: The Whitewater-based nonprofit provides mobility, companionship and independence for the blind with custom-trained guide dogs. The life-changing partnerships are formed to meet the individual needs of each handler and their canine. All guide dogs are provided free to the organization's students.
