$5 Million Bail Set For Man Accused In Fatal Palm Springs Shooting

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A man accused of gunning down a 64-year-old pedestrian at a Palm Springs intersection was charged Tuesday with murder and other offenses.
Titus Gaumald Holland, 48, was arrested Friday following a Palm Springs Police Department investigation into the alleged shooting at Avenida Cerca and Corozon Avenue.
Along with murder, Holland is charged with possession of an illicit short-barreled rifle and sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.

The defendant is being held in lieu of $5 million bail at the Benoit Detention Center and was slated to make his initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
According to police, just before 7 a.m. Friday, the victim, identified only as a Palm Springs man, was standing or walking through Avenida Cerca and Corozon when gunfire erupted, possibly from a moving vehicle.

The man was hit and collapsed in the street, as the shooter fled the location, investigators said.
Palm Springs Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
In the ensuing investigation, detectives identified Holland as the alleged assailant. He was taken into custody without incident roughly four hours later on Avenida Cerca.
No other details were disclosed, including a possible motive.
Holland has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
