ALDI Grocery Stores Making Push In Coachella Valley

COACHELLA, CA — The no-frills discount grocery chain with roots in Germany is making a push in the Coachella Valley.

On June 22, ALDI will open a Coachella store at 50180 Cesar Chavez Street. The chain already has locations in La Quinta, Palm Desert and Palm Springs.

"More than 1,000 new ALDI stores have opened throughout America over the past decade, and customers nationwide have become loyal fans of the company’s fast and affordable shopping experience," according to a news release this week from the company.

The discount grocer offers everything found in traditional supermarkets, including produce, meats and seafood, dairy items, baked goods, pantry staples, cereals, baby and pet products, household goods, alcohol, frozen foods, personal care items and more.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for six years running,” said Tom Cindel, Moreno Valley regional vice president for ALDI. “We’re excited to open our first ALDI store in Coachella and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”

The Coachella store is one of 120 new U.S. ALDI locations planned in 2023. The company has targeted to open more than 2,400 stores nationwide by the end of the year.

In 1961, the Albrecht family founded a discount grocery store in Germany. Sixteen years later in 1976, the family opened its first ALDI store in Iowa. Today, the international company has its U.S. headquarters in Batavia, Illinois.

The Coachella store is set for an 8:30 a.m. opening on June 22. The first 100 customers will receive a gift card as part of the "ALDI Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program." Shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 ALDI gift card during the opening weekend from June 22 through June 25, according to the company.

Additionally, ALDI is partnering with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to help find a cure for childhood cancer. With each limited-time ALSF-branded bag of lemons purchased throughout June, ALDI will donate 50 cents to ALSF, up to $1 million, the company said.

Regular store hours at the Coachella location will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
