Hit-And-Run Leaves Bicyclist, 91, In Critical Condition

Early Monday, the 91-year-old man was struck in the area of Cathedral Canyon Drive and Dinah Shore Drive in Cathedral City.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A 91-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized and in critical condition Monday after an early-morning collision with a vehicle that fled the scene.

Officers responded around 3:15 a.m. Monday to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist in the area of Cathedral Canyon Drive near Dinah Shore Drive, according to the Cathedral City Police Department. The bicyclist, a Cathedral City man, was found lying on the roadway with severe injuries.

"The male subject was unresponsive," police said in a statement. "Cathedral City Fire Department responded to the scene, provided aid and transported him to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition."

The collision was under investigation, and CCPD officers were following up leads to identify the vehicle and driver, who fled the scene before officers arrived, according to police. Cathedral Canyon Drive was closed for several hours between Dinah Shore Drive and Paseo Real, but the roadway reopened before 11 a.m.
