Body Found Floating In Cathedral City Country Club Pond: Police

Cathedral City police arrived at the scene where witnesses reported a body floating in the Date Palm Country Club Pond.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — 71-year-old man was discovered floating dead in the pond of a Cathedral City country club Monday, but authorities said there were no signs of foul play.

The victim, identified only as a Cathedral City resident, was found about 9:30 a.m. in the golf course pond for the Date Palm Country Club on Date Palm Drive, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.

Commander Rick Sanchez said patrol officers were called to the location after patrons spotted the man "floating in the pond."

Municipal fire personnel were summoned and "extracted the subject from the water," at which point he was pronounced dead, Sanchez said.

"There were no signs of foul play or indications the subject had been assaulted," he said.

The body was turned over to Riverside County coroner's office investigators.

An autopsy was pending.

Sanchez said that as of Monday afternoon, the victim's family had not yet been notified of his death.
