Border Patrol K-9 Sniffs Out 113 Pounds Of Meth Near Indio: CBP

INDIO, CA — A U.S. citizen was arrested last week by U.S. Border Patrol agents after he was allegedly found near Indio with 113 pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle.

The 27-year-old man, whose identity was not released, was pulled over by agents around 10:30 a.m. on May 19 as he was driving northbound on state Route 86 in a black pickup truck that was towing a trailer.

During the traffic stop, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to the vehicle and trailer, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.

During an initial search, agents found a compartment in the trailer that contained a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. A subsequent search turned up 36 packages of the crystal-like substance hidden in three compartments in the trailer’s floor, according to the news release.

In total, the alleged narcotics' haul had an estimated street value of $96,500, the federal agency said.

The driver was arrested, while the U.S. Border Patrol seized the vehicle and drugs.
