LA QUINTA, CA — Former Olympic athlete turned reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner will stop in the Coachella Valley Monday along her reignited campaign trail in the upcoming gubernatorial election. With just under a month to go before election day, Jenner said she plans to work her way up the state to promote her candidacy to unseat Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The 1976 Olympic decathlon gold medal winner was scheduled to visit the Republican Women Federated Headquarters in La Quinta on Monday afternoon.

"This coming week I'll be going west from La Quinta to San Bernardino. Then we will start making our way up north," Jenner tweeted Sunday. "Touring this state and meeting the hard working people has been the most special opportunity."

Jenner has been less of a presence in California's recall race in recent weeks having spent the last several weeks in Australia filming the reality TV show, "Big Brother VIP."

"Great time abroad for fun and glad to be back in #California on the campaign trail!" she tweeted on Aug. 7.

Jenner kicked off her statewide tour last week, including a stop at the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday where she vowed to crackdown on illegal immigration and pledged to use state funds to "fill in the gaps" at the border wall.

The 71-year-old has called herself the "compassionate disrupter" in her campaign ads and has painted herself as the more moderate choice among her fellow recall rivals.

"California needs a middle of the road candidate. I am that candidate," Jenner wrote in a tweet Sunday. "We do not need super far right individuals governing our state. We need prison reform, equality under the law, and affordable housing. While also having a biz friendly environment."

Jenner is arguably Newsom's most famous contender due to her celebrity status. She reported raising nearly $750,000 through the end of July, ending up with about $22,000 on hand after expenses. However, the campaign was carrying over $150,000 in debt.

Recent polls from Survey USA/San Diego Union Tribune and UC Berkeley, showed that Jenner was trailing all other candidates with 3-4 percent of support from respondents in both surveys.

As California voters began receiving ballots in recent days, Newsom amped up his own campaign efforts, holding "Vote No" events in Los Angeles and San Diego counties over the weekend.

"This is the most consequential election you're going to have an opportunity to vote on," he told voters in Southern California on Saturday. "I know it felt like that last year, as it relates to Trump, but we didn't defeat Trumpism — it's still alive and well in the state of California. It's on the ballot Sept. 14."
