CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — The Cathedral City Police Department announced in advance of Super Bowl LVIII that it will have additional officers on patrol Sunday looking for motorists who appear to be driving under the influence.

"Let's make sure Super Bowl Sunday is remembered for great plays on the field, not for unnecessary risks on the road," CCPD Chief George Crum said in a statement. "Before you grab a drink, plan ahead for a sober designated driver. Choosing a safer way to go is a win-win for everyone."

The DUI enforcement will be in effect all day throughout the city, according to police.

Impaired driving also includes marijuana, some prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs that could interfere with driving, police said, encouraging people to research and understand how certain drugs may affect them.

Police encouraged football fans to stick to the Go Safely Plan, which can be found at gosafelyca.org/go-safely-game-plan/.
