Child Injured In Fall From Moving Vehicle In School Parking Lot
The child was injured falling from a moving vehicle in a school parking lot.
INDIO, CA — A child was recovering from his injuries Saturday after falling out of a moving vehicle in the parking lot of a school in Indio, authorities said.
Officers responded to the John Glenn Middle School parking lot around 8:30 a.m. Friday to a report of a vehicle versus child traffic accident, according to the Indio Police Department.
Police said the child was seated in an Acura SUV when he unbuckled himself for unknown reasons and opened the rear passenger door while the vehicle was still moving.

The child fell out and one of his legs became trapped under the rear tire as the vehicle came to a stop.
A school resource officer with the police department who was nearby at the time of the accident responded, and with the help of several bystanders they lifted the vehicle enough for the child's mother to pull him to safety.

Paramedics took the child to a hospital where he was being treated for minor injuries.
Police reminded parents and guardians to ensure children are properly restrained while inside a moving vehicle and to use child safety locks on rear doors to prevent accidental openings while the vehicle is in motion.
