PALM DESERT, CA — Days ahead of Christmas -- an in spite of the rain -- the California Highway Patrol held a toy distribution event Friday in Thousand Palms for Coachella Valley children.

"The CHP's toy giveaway at the arena is still happening today despite the rain," CHP spokesman David Torres said. "Vehicles will be directed to enter the most east entrance of the arena. There will be traffic signs and signals with traffic directions."

The event began around 2 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of Acrisure Arena, 75702 Varner Road, according Torres. It was set to continue until all toys were given out.
